Daniel A. Horwitz
Daniel A. Horwitz is a constitutional litigator practicing in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the recipient of the 2018 Harris Gilbert Public Service Award from the Tennessee Bar Association and a nationally renowned impact litigator. Horwitz has also been recognized by the American Bar Association as one of the top 40 young lawyers in the United States, and the Nashville Post has repeatedly recognized him as one of the “Best of the Best” lawyers in Nashville. Horwitz is a graduate of Cornell University and Vanderbilt Law School. He is admitted to practice law in every court in Tennessee as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuits. A former judicial law clerk for the Tennessee Supreme Court, Horwitz’s award-winning legal scholarship has appeared in numerous law journals including the Harvard Latino Law Review, the N.Y.U. Journal of Legislation & Public Policy, the University of Memphis Law Review, the Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy, the SMU Science and Technology Law Review, the Tennessee Bar Journal, and the Nashville Bar Journal. Horwitz’s law practice consists primarily of First Amendment law and speech defense, appellate litigation, constitutional, post-conviction and innocence litigation, campaign finance and election law, criminal record expungement, and personal injury representation of victims of crime. He is also a former member of the Tennessee Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and serves as general counsel for Tennesseans for Sensible Election Laws, an election reform advocacy group.

Sarah L. Martin
Sarah L. Martin is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and also holds a Master of Public Administration from Tennessee State University. Prior to practicing law, Sarah worked in the nonprofit sector, advocating on behalf of victims and survivors of domestic violence and elder abuse and educating community members on intervention.
Sarah earned her law degree cum laude from Belmont University College of Law. There, she served as Executive Notes Editor of the Belmont Law Review and published an article, Evidence-Based, Constitutionally Sound Approaches to Reducing Gun Fatalities in Violent Relationships. She also participated in moot court and was nationally recognized for her brief-writing skills. As an attorney, Sarah has represented clients from all backgrounds in medical malpractice cases, with a focus on long-term care abuse and neglect. She has recovered millions for victims of corporate healthcare putting profits over people. But she is just as proud of her appellate work, which has improved the law for injured people seeking justice.

Melissa K. Dix
Melissa K. Dix graduated from Boston College before attending Duke University School of Law. While at Duke, Melissa served on the Public Interest Law Foundation Board for three years, serving as President during her final year. She also served on the Moot Court Board for two years after winning the 1L Hardt Cup Tournament. Outside of the classroom, Melissa worked as a Research Assistant to Major General Charles Dunlap, externed with the Durham County District Attorney’s Office, interned with the United States Air Force JAG Corps, and interned with the Davidson County District Attorney General’s Office in Nashville.
After graduating from Duke University School of Law with the Public Interest and Public Service Certificate, Melissa returned to Nashville to begin her career with the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, handling a wide variety of criminal cases and working with the Conviction Review Unit.
